Common Questions About Decorative Concrete
Explore answers to frequently asked questions about our decorative concrete techniques and classes.
How often does decorative or stamped concrete need to be resealed?
Generally, you should look to reseal your stamped or decorative concrete every 1.5 to 3 years. The exact timing depends entirely on your local weather conditions and how much foot or vehicle traffic the surface gets. Regular resealing keeps the colors vibrant and protects the concrete from moisture damage and stains.
Will a decorative concrete coating or sealer make my patio or pool deck slippery?
High-gloss solvent sealers can become slick when wet, but this is easily preventable. When sealing areas prone to water—like pool decks, patios, or driveways—we mix in an anti-skid additive (like Seal-Grip). This creates a slip-resistant, textured grip without dulling the beautiful finish of the concrete.
What is the difference between a "Seamless Texture" and a "Patterned Stamp"?
A seamless texture skin uses feathered edges to overlap seamlessly, creating a continuous, natural stone texture without any visible grout lines or grid patterns. A patterned stamp is designed with precise, tight interlocking edges meant to mimic specific building materials like brick, cobblestone, ashlar slate, or wood planks.
Can you apply stamped concrete designs over my existing concrete slab?
Yes, you don’t always have to rip out old concrete to get a decorative look. We can use polymer-modified concrete overlays to apply textures and stamped patterns directly over a structurally sound, clean existing slab. However, certain stamps with incredibly deep grout lines are better suited for full, fresh concrete pours.
What is the best way to clean and maintain decorative concrete floors?
For daily dirt and debris, standard sweeping or a garden hose rinse is all it takes. For deeper cleans, a mild soap (like liquid dish soap) and a soft-bristle brush work best. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or pressure washers with high-PSI tips held too close, as they can wear down the protective sealer prematurely.
